Every winter, I have aspirational thoughts about how I will dress for this very long, cold season. I picture myself in proper pants and longer dresses and blazers and super cute shoes.
But after about one week of winter weather, those aspirational thoughts have pretty much gone out of the window.
I talk a lot about building a wardrobe around the lifestyle you have, so here’s what I’m actually wearing this winter.
ugg boots (and sometimes dr martens)
Dr Martens were a great purchase because I know they can withstand some snow, and I have gotten a lot of wear out of them. But if I’m honest, most of the time I’m slipping on a pair of Uggs.
I don’t care where I’m going, Uggs are the only thing I want to wear on my feet from December through March.
a very large, very puffy parka
Do I wear my classic wool coats through the winter? Yes of course!
… On days when the temperature is above zero Celsius and it’s perfectly sunny and I’m taking a photo for Instagram. But what I’m really wearing 95% of the time is a large shapeless parka that feels akin to a sleeping bag.
the same toque in different colours
I hope the lovely wide-brim hats hanging on my office wall are comfortable because they’re staying there until May.
joggers
I have a pair of grey motto-style joggers that I probably wear five times a week. I wish I was exaggerating. They have held up for half a decade and they are not going anywhere anytime soon.
sweatshirts and sometimes a cute fitted turtleneck
Am I wearing blazers, or cute button-ups, or tops with interesting sleeve details?
Nope, I’m in sweaters and turtlenecks that cover as much skin as humanly possible because I am cold for six months straight.
I think it’s safe to say I love winter fashion in theory, but in practice I just want to be warm and cozy!
What’s something you tell yourself you’ll wear in the winter, and then what are you actually wearing all winter?
