Haven mattress is gifted; all opinions are my own.
My journey in sustainability has been one of many small changes spread out over the past couple years. While I talk a lot about sustainability and how it relates to my wardrobe here and on Instagram, making environmentally-kind choices has become an important consideration in how I live, the products I choose, and the way I approach purchases in general – a sustainability snowball, if you will.
While I’ve adopted a slower and more intentional approach to fashion, and have made other changes in sustainability like swapping disposable everyday items for reusable ones, I never considered how I could sleep more sustainably. But late last year, I was invited by Haven Sleep Co. to receive a plant-based mattress through their affiliate program.

Haven Sleep Co. and sustainably-made mattresses
I could jump right into how much we’ve been loving our mattress. It feels like we’re sleeping in a fancy hotel every night! But there’s more to Haven than just an exceptionally comfortable bed. They truly ensure sustainability in their business with a made-to-order model for their eco-friendly and renewable products.
Haven is a Canadian family-owned business committed to doing good for the environment and good for the community. They significantly reduce unnecessary waste by making all mattresses fresh-to-order (never mass-produced), with high-quality bio-foams that are hypoallergenic, anti-microbial, eco-friendly, renewable, and plant-based. Their foams are made from soy, and their natural Talalay latex is made of sap from the rubber tree. To top it all off, for every 10 mattresses sold, they build and donate a mattress to a partnered charity!
When purchasing a big ticket item like a mattress, it’s important to shop for quality – our sleep is invaluable – but it’s nice to know there are companies like Haven Sleep Co. who prioritize the environment as much as they do the quality of their products. When making big purchases, I kind of assume there aren’t many great eco-friendly options (something I am still working on in my sustainable journey) but Haven has changed my perspective. There are so many Canadian-owned businesses that have the environment built right into the fabric of their business; and the fabric of their mattresses – haha!
our new (and sustainable!) sleep
It’s now been over a month since Alex and I have been sleeping on our Haven mattress. As already mentioned, sleep now feels like a night in a high-end hotel that you splurge on for a weekend away! The Rejuvenate mattress supports the neck and ankle areas, while being a bit softer around the hips. I was curious about how this would feel (would I be sinking too far into the middle?) but I feel supported and comfortable in all the right places.
Because of the nature of the foam and natural Talalay latex, Haven mattresses also reduce motion transfer. This means I don’t wake Alex if I get up earlier than him in the morning, and vice versa! Not only are we getting a great sleep on an extra comfy mattress, we can sleep in longer too; which I often do, because I just never want to get out of bed now.
It’s easy to love a comfortable mattress, but sleep comes even easier when you know your mattress is kind to the environment.
Would you opt for a sustainable mattress? What are some ways you consider sustainability when making big-ticket purchases?
